Hong Kong superstar Jacky Cheung recently sparked health concerns after it was announced that he would be cancelling three shows in Shanghai due to “physical discomfort”.

Cheung, 62, was originally set to perform at the city’s Oriental Sports Center on March 8, 9 and 10 as part of his 60+ Concert Tour.

Following the announcement, rumours of the God of Songs being seriously ill and admitted to the intensive care unit in Shanghai’s Zhongshan Hospital circulated on social media.

Some netizens claimed that Cheung was battling a severe Covid-19 infection, which supposedly led to the sudden cancellation of his three shows.

A representative from Zhongshan Hospital stepped forward today (March 8) to deny these claims, reiterating that Cheung was not admitted to their centre.

Despite the statement, Dimsum Daily reported that it has done little to comfort fans as “the source of the singer’s purported medical care remains unconfirmed”.

Cheung previously told Hong Kong’s Ming Pao Daily that Meniere’s disease – an inner ear problem associated with dizzy spells and hearing loss – has long been an existing issue for him.

The singer, who performed six shows in Kuala Lumpur last August, gave fans a scare on the third night of his Malaysia concert after taking a tumble mid-performance.
