Bauhaus buildings around the world

This is the building that housed the Bauhaus art school from 1925 to 1932 and is today a museum in Dessau, Germany. Germany is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus movement this year.

The "Haus des Volkes" in Probstzella is the largest and most comprehensive Bauhaus monument complex in Thuringia, Germany. It represents part of the history of the Bauhaus from 1919 to 1933.

The Erfurt artist and Bauhaus student Margaretha Reichardt opened a hand-weaving workshop in 1933. This home in Germany was built in 1939 and still houses her living quarters on the ground floor.

The Abbeanum on Fröbelstieg in Jena, Germany, was built in 1930 under the direction of Ernst Neufert, a co-founder of the Bauhaus style in Weimar. It is used as a university building now.

This is the Student House on Philosophenweg in Germany, which opened in 1930. It was designed by Active Architectural Workshop of the State College for Trades and Architecture in Weimar, which was represented by architects Otto Bartning and Ernst Neufert.

For the first major Bauhaus Exhibition in Weimar in 1923, a model house was built and became known as the "Haus Am Horn". The model house was designed by Georg Muche. It has Bauhaus elements such as small but functional rooms grouped around a central living room with a skylight.

The Henry van de Velde Building at Bauhaus University in Weimar, Germany, was the location of the founding of the State Bauhaus in 1919.

The house "Hohe Pappeln" was the private home of the Belgian architect and designer Henry van de Velde in Weimar. He lived in it until 1917.

The Bauhaus influence has spread across the world. In the 1930s, Tel Aviv, Israel, built 4,000 buildings in the Bauhaus and modern style. It is known as the White City.

The Farnsworth house, designed by Mies van der Rohe, is located about 60 miles west of Chicago. The one-story structure was also the work of the late Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, one of the 20th century's great architects. The architects were influenced by the German Bauhaus style with a flat rooftop and modernist touches.

S.R. Crown Hall on the campus of the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago is a national landmark. It was designed by renowned architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1956. He eventually became the head of the institute.

The TD Center in Toronto was designed by architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who had been the head of the Berlin Bauhaus school in the 1930s. The group of towers was completed between 1967 and 1991.
