1990: American jockey Willie Shoemaker had his 40,351st and last ride, on Patchy Groundfog at Santa Anita in the appropriately named 'The Legend's Last Ride Handicap'.

1991: Runcorn Highfield drew 12-12 with Carlisle to end the worst losing streak in rugby league history. The team had lost their previous 55 league games, going back to 29 January 1989. Their first win came 20 games later.

2004: UEFA rejected Wales' appeal to have Russia thrown out of the Euro 2004 finals for fielding midfielder Yegor Titov, who later failed a drugs test, in the teams' play-off match.

2006: Stuart Fielden scored two tries as Bradford won a record-equalling third World Club Challenge with a 30-10 success over Wests Tigers at the Galpharm Stadium.

2007: World Cup winner Jonny Wilkinson scored 27 points on his comeback from injury as England opened their RBS 6 Nations campaign with a 42-20 win over Scotland at Twickenham.
