HKBU participated again in the Hong Kong Flower Show organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department at the Victoria Park from 15 to 24 March, showcasing nine penjing masterpieces in the Man Lung Garden, including “Hedera helix”, “Rock growing Fortunella hindsii (Hong Kong Kumquat)” and “Podocarpus macrophyllus (Buddhist Pine)”. The University’s exhibits were honoured with the “Merit Award for Outstanding Exhibit (Local)” by the organiser.

In 2000, HKBU received the generous support from the late Dr Wu Yee-sun, the founder of Wing Lung Bank, who earned the name of “Sage of Penjing” for his keen interest in penjing, to establish the Wu Yee Sun Penjing Foundation Fund for promoting penjing art, and to support the University in setting up an elegant bonsai garden - the Man Lung Garden on Ho Sin Hang Campus. The penjing exhibits in the Garden were donated by generous donors and organisations including Dr Wu Yee-sun, Sha Tin Bonsai Association, Hong Kong Bonsai International Society, Mr Lui Shu-ying, Mr Zuo Biu and Mr Fan Sheung-tak.
