The Cayenne Coupe is an ideal luxury SUV for the performance-minded buyer. It impresses with its rapid acceleration and relentless grip and is still comfortable to drive every day. We also like the huge range of customization options. Alas, those options are costly, and the Coupe suffers from poor cargo space and visibility because of its sloping roofline.

Overview
The Cayenne Coupe is the fastback version of the regular Cayenne, Porsche's largest SUV. The midsize SUV was developed for performance and driver engagement. But this Porsche also offers plenty of tech and luxury features, provides excellent ride quality and offers lots of customization. It basically offers almost anything you're looking for in an SUV except for a third row and a large cargo area because of its sloping roofline. However, its high starting price puts it out of reach of many SUV shoppers. For 2024, the Cayenne Coupe and the separately reviewed Cayenne received a host of changes and upgrades.
Cost to DriveCost to drive estimates for the 2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo 8A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $4.45 per gallon for premium unleaded in Ohio.

Edmunds spotlight: All of the Cayenne Coupe's changes for 2024
Porsche refreshed the Cayenne Coupe's exterior and loaded it with new standard features including blind-spot warning, a wireless smartphone charger, LED adaptive headlights, and an adaptive suspension that's been tuned to deliver improved ride comfort and handling. Drivers will enjoy the new 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster and redesigned center console. The 12.3-inch center touchscreen now displays Porsche's latest infotainment system and there's a new optional 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger. The Cayenne Coupe also has a revamped lineup that includes three plug-in hybrid models that boast larger battery packs for longer all-electric driving ranges. All models now make more power, most notably the Cayenne S Coupe, which now sports a 468-horsepower turbocharged V8.
Competitors to consider
The Cayenne Coupe offers even more for 2024, but if that high price tag has you on the fence, consider some of its rivals. The Porsche competes against other sporty coupe-like SUVs including the Audi Q8, the BMW X6, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe and the new Genesis GV80 Coupe. Like the Cayenne Coupe, each has performance versions but lacks a plug-in hybrid model. There's also the smaller Porsche Macan SUV, with a lower starting price, to consider. As for all-electric rivals, check out the Audi Q8 Sportback e-tron.

Rated for you by America's best test team.Performance
8.0/10
How does the Cayenne Coupe drive? The Cayenne Coupe S — the trim we tested — is astonishingly fast in a straight line. When you're not accelerating full out, slow-speed response around town is a little lacking in the default driving mode. Selecting either the Sport or Sport Plus mode sharpens response to more agreeable levels.
Considering the Cayenne Coupe S is a sizable SUV, it handles corners extremely well, with almost zero body roll. It changes direction quickly and there's plenty of grip. Steering, though precise, requires more effort at slow speeds and delivers less road feedback than we were expecting. The brakes are a little grabby at slow speeds, making it hard to consistently get smooth stops.

Comfort
7.5/10
How comfortable is the Cayenne Coupe? The Cayenne Coupe strikes an excellent balance between comfort and performance. The front seats are bolstered well and hold you in place around high-speed corners, and they're also plush enough to keep you comfortable on long road trips. The ride quality is excellent thanks to Porsche's optional air suspension that soaks up most big bumps.
Somewhat surprisingly, the Cayenne loses points here for an unrefined climate control system. Airflow from the climate system can be a little weak at times, but cranking up fan speed also cranks up the fan noise. Wind and road noise is also a bit elevated for a luxury SUV.

Interior
7.0/10
How’s the interior? Most of the controls are easy to reach and well labeled. But there are no real buttons for anything beyond the climate control, and that means you'll be taking your eyes off the road to operate things. The menu system can be a bit cumbersome to navigate too, especially in the instrument panel. That said, the digital instrument panel shows a good variety of information, and the wide display allows for a lot of info on screen at once.
Forward visibility is great thanks to a low dashboard. But visibility directly back and at your flanks suffers because of a small rear window, sloping rear roofline and large rear roof pillars. On the upside, the cabin is roomier than you might expect. Headroom and legroom are great all around, though you still have to duck under the roofline a bit when entering the back.

Technology
7.5/10
How’s the tech? The Cayenne is available with lots of in-car tech and driver aids, though few features are standard. The infotainment screen is clear and responsive, and we didn't have any issues with connectivity or lag with our test vehicle. The map is easy to read, and the available voice commands will allow you to input an address or adjust other things like the climate control. Our vehicle was also fitted with the available Bose audio system. It's good, but most of our staff thought the audio quality didn't fully match the price.
While blind-spot warning is standard, features like adaptive cruise control must be added as options. That's a shame when you get these same driver aids as standard equipment in rivals.
While blind-spot warning is standard, features like adaptive cruise control must be added as options. That's a shame when you get these same driver aids as standard equipment in rivals.
Storage
7.0/10
How’s the storage? The Cayenne Coupe loses some space when compared to its standard-roof sibling. Rear cargo space is just 21 cubic feet behind the rear seat and 53 cubes with the seats folded. It's a nice, flat space to load larger items in, at least. Storage in the cabin is decent. The center console bin is still a bit small, but the door pockets are useful and offer enough space for tall water bottles.
Got small children? There are a pair of Isofix anchors in the back seat for installing child safety seats. They are easy to locate and connect to. But getting a bulky seat into the back can be tricky because of the Coupe's lower rear roofline.

Fuel Economy
7.0/10
How’s the fuel economy? The base Cayenne Coupe get an EPA-estimated 19 mpg in combined city/highway driving, while the V8 engine drops to 17 mpg combined. Both figures are below average for a midsize luxury SUV, though Porsche does offer the E-Hybrid plug-in hybrid versions that can help you get better fuel economy. We've been able to generally match the EPA's estimates in our own real-world driving tests.
Value
8.0/10
Is the Cayenne Coupe a good value? It's hard to qualify the Cayenne Coupe as a great value, especially when most other rivals offer a similar luxury experience for less. But even when you're not exploring the Cayenne's unrivaled performance limits, the top-notch build quality justifies the cost. Once you plunk down money at the dealership, it'll be a while before you have to shell out for unforeseen costs. The Cayenne's basic and powertrain warranties, along with roadside assistance, are good for four years/50,000 miles.
Warranty and roadside assistance coverage is typical for the class with four years/50,000 miles of coverage. Free maintenance is good for a year; some luxury rivals offer longer coverage.

Wildcard
8.5/10
The Cayenne Coupe is a true-blue Porsche. The sheer speed, combined with the excellent handling capability, makes for a truly enjoyable driving experience. It's also comfortable on the inside and unassuming and classy on the outside. Understatement at its best.
Which Cayenne Coupe does Edmunds recommend?
As tempting as a 729-hp plug-in hybrid luxury SUV sounds, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Coupe's high price tag will likely make you reconsider. And plugging it in every day might not be ideal for you. With its new 468-hp turbocharged V8, the Cayenne S Coupe offers the most performance for the money. However, if you want the superior efficiency of a plug-in hybrid and don't mind plugging in at home, the similarly priced Cayenne S E-Hybrid Coupe offers comparable performance.
Porsche Cayenne Coupe models
The 2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe is a performance-oriented midsize luxury SUV with standard seating for four passengers, but you can get a fifth seat at no extra charge. Six models are available: a base version plus the E-Hybrid, S, S E-Hybrid, Turbo E-Hybrid and Turbo GT.
Each model is primarily differentiated by what engine is under the hood, though each trim typically includes a few extra features as you go up in price. Every Cayenne Coupe has standard all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Standard equipment highlights include:

- Adaptive steering (adjusts the steering wheel's responsiveness to enhance low-speed maneuverability and high-speed stability)
- Fixed panoramic glass roof

- Road sign assistance (detects certain road signs and displays them on the instrument panel)
- Parking sensors (alert you to obstacles that may not be visible in front of or behind the vehicle when parking)
E-Hybrid
This version enhances performance and efficiency thanks to:
- Plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine and an electric motor (combined system output of 463 hp and 479 lb-ft)
- 25.9-kWh battery pack that provides a short all-electric driving range
S
The Cayenne S Coupe is almost identical to the base Cayenne Coupe but has a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine (468 hp, 442 lb-ft) and red brake calipers.
S E-Hybrid
The S E-Hybrid uses a more powerful version of the E-Hybrid's plug-in hybrid system that produces 512 hp and 553 lb-ft. Other performance upgrades include:
- Adaptive air suspension (helps improve ride comfort and handling stability; can raise and lower the height of the vehicle)
- Upgraded brakes with red calipers
Turbo E-Hybrid
This plug-in hybrid is the most powerful version of the Cayenne Coupe but not the fastest. In addition to the S E-Hybrid's features, the Turbo E-Hybrid adds:
- Plug-in hybrid powertrain using the turbocharged V8 (729 hp, 700 lb-ft)
- 21-inch wheels
- Upgraded LED headlights
- Upgraded brakes
- Unique grille and air intakes
- Body-color exterior trim
- Upgraded front sport seats with memory settings
- Heated sport steering wheel
- Heated rear seats
- Interior ambient lighting
- 14-speaker Bose audio system
Turbo GT
The Turbo GT offers the ultimate performance in the Cayenne Coupe lineup. It includes:
- Turbocharged V8 (650 hp, 626 lb-ft)
- 22-inch wheels with high-performance tires
- Titanium exhaust system
- Upgraded and lowered sport-tuned adaptive air suspension
- Carbon-ceramic brakes with yellow calipers
- Rear-wheel steering (enhances steering response and handling)
- Carbon-fiber roof and exterior accents
- Larger roof spoiler
- Unique grille, air intakes and front splitter
- Upgraded sport steering wheel wrapped in synthetic suede
- Synthetic suede and leather upholstery
- Carbon-fiber interior trim
Porsche offers a seemingly endless list of stand-alone and packaged options. Many are cosmetic upgrades that allow you to customize the Cayenne Coupe's appearance inside and out. Others are specific to a model to improve performance. Outside of these extras, there are several significant package upgrades to consider, such as:
- Porsche InnoDrive package
- Traffic Jam Assist (at speeds up to 37 mph, the system combines adaptive cruise control and lane keeping to help reduce fatigue during stop-and-go highway driving)
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Cayenne Coupe and the car in front)
- Lane keeping system (makes minor steering corrections to help keep the vehicle centered in its lane)
- Emergency stop assistance (brings the Cayenne Coupe to a stop if the system senses the driver has become unresponsive)
- Premium Package Plus
- Four-zone automatic climate control
- Heated rear seats
- Ventilated front seats
- 14-speaker Bose audio system
- Interior ambient lighting
- Adaptive cruise control (maintains a driver-set distance between the Cayenne Coupe and the car in front)
- 360-degree camera system (gives you a top-down view of the Cayenne Coupe and its surroundings in tight parking situations)
- Automated parking system (steers into a parking spot with little or no driver intervention)
- Technology package
- 10.9-inch passenger-side touchscreen display
- Head-up display (displays important information in your sight line on the windshield)
- Night vision camera (displays an infrared image of the area in front of the vehicle to assist while driving at night)
- Off-Road package
- Underbody skid plates
- Tilt, gradient and steering angle displays
- Second tow hook
Most of the features in the above packages can be added as stand-alone options, and most features that are standard on higher trim levels can be added to lower trims as stand-alone options. Besides the features above, consider these notable stand-alone options:
- Various wheel sizes, designs and colors
- Ultra-high-performance summer tires
- Soft-close doors (catch as they're being closed and gently pull shut)
- Heated windshield
- Middle rear seat
- Premium leather upholstery
- Heated, ventilated and massaging front seats
- 21-speaker Burmester sound system

2020 Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo 4dr SUV AWD (4.0L 8cyl Turbo 8A)
I bought a 2020 Cayenne Coupe last month (December) and this is the first car I have ever purchased for myself. I am very happy with this vehicle so far. I needed something that would fit all three of my young kids who are in car seats but still be aesthetically pleasing. The back seat has room for all three car seats (Diono Radian 3R) and I don’t feel like the kids are breathing down my … neck. I’ve yet to really play around with sport mode but so far the drive is great.

2022 Porsche Cayenne Coupe E-Hybrid 4dr SUV AWD (3.0L 6cyl Turbo gas/electric plug-in hybrid 8A)
I’ve read some of the other reviews. I’ve also read the admin review. I’m not sure how somebody could say. This car is stiff. I’ve had it for almost 2 years now and it is the best car I’ve ever owned. Also the plug-in hybrid has a 30 mile range not 17 mile. it’s phenomenal. It’s easy to charge and just going to and from work and short distances. You almost never need to use gas.
It … handles the road superbly. Yes of course it’s pricey but you get what you pay for.

2024 Porsche Cayenne Coupe S 4dr SUV AWD (4.0L 8cyl Turbo 8A)
Hard not to call this is the best SUV that you can buy. The coupe gives it a very sporty aggressive style. The V8 is just an absolute pleasure to drive. The trim and finish is exceptionally German. Porsche does it better than anyone else. This is as good as it gets. Be ready to drop 135k for a well equipped version but absolutely worth every penny
