Monster Burger towers over all others

COSHOCTON - What could satisfy burger lovers more than a towering creation with big flavor to match? Nate Wyler, manager of The Freeze, has the answer: The Monster Burger.

The Monster Burger at The Freeze is so tall it has to be held together with skewers. It weighs more than 2 pounds and has three 8 ounce chop sirloin patties, nine slices of bacon, American and Swiss cheese.

“You’re not going to get anything like this just anywhere around here. It’s completely unique. It’s a gourmet burger,” said Wyler of the burger that he created to give customers an appetite-busting meal that gets people talking.

Located at 1431 Chestnut St., The Freeze has been serving the Monster Burger since it first hit the menu in 2013. Wyler said it has been a hit because of its combination of tasty flavor and size that makes customers take notice.

“I wanted something that you couldn’t just go anywhere to get. Every time we make it for someone that hasn’t had it before, they are blown away by the size and weight. That’s what we wanted,” he said.

Weighing in at more than 2 ½ pounds and standing almost a foot high, the Monster Burger has three 8-ounce chop sirloin patties, nine pieces of bacon, four slices of American cheese and two slices of Swiss cheese.

It is topped off with “the works,” Wyler said, that includes lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup, mayonnaise and mustard. He said the quality sirloin, bacon and Swiss give the burger its gourmet taste. “Many people have told me that it’s the best burger they’ve had.”

Wyler said The Freeze opened on March 7 after being closed for the winter season. Inspired by the Dari Hut in West Lafayette that is owned by his parents, Debbie and Tracy Wyler, he has created his own menu and his own unique brand.

This season, his brand will include a new 16-item value menu, animal-shaped chicken nuggets and a 10-inch pork tenderloin sandwich called the Big T. The Monster Burger fits his philosophy of “giving people what they want.”

The Freeze is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Sunday, and will stay open until 8 p.m. after Easter and until 10 p.m. during the summer months.
