Description

Taken over several nights in June and July, 2020. This interesting structure has been closely cropped from my Eagle Nebula image and highlights many blemishes such as over-sharpening and star reduction technique, so it is intended to be viewed in the "unzoomed" mode!

The Pillars of Creation are towering clouds of dust and gas within the heart of M16, the Eagle Nebula. Featured in an iconic Hubble Space Telescope photo in 1995, the pillars are part of an active star forming region and hide newborn stars within the columns. The Eagle Nebula spans 70 by 55 light years across while the pillars stretch roughly 4-5 light years. It is about 7000 light years from Earth in the constellation Serpens.
