When is International Dog Day?

International Dog Day is celebrated each year on August 26 to honor all dogs - no matter what their appearance, size, age or breed may be. In addition, it is a holiday to encourage the adoption of all those four-legged friends who have not found a home and family.

Why was it created?

This is a great, symbolic occasion to honor man's best friend. A day that reminds you that every dog in the world deserves a life of joy, surrounded by love, protection, care, and endowed with the respect and bond of a guardian. A special day to raise awareness about dog adoption, showing that if someone is looking for a faithful companion in life, shelters are full of four-legged friends waiting for their chance. The International Dog Day is also a great opportunity to show how many valuable qualities a furry friend brings to the guardian's life. Positive effects on health and well-being, a whole range of cheerfulness, energy and emotional benefits, support and protection are just some of the advantages of owning a dog.

On International Dog Day, special attention is also paid to all dogs that are still in distress in many parts of the world because people, government or local authorities do not care about their welfare. Mention is made of killed and battered dogs, but also those who live homeless, suffer without care, help and rescue. The International Dog Day is a mission that aims to help society appreciate those dogs who work selflessly every day to save lives, provide safety and care for people. Dogs risk their lives every day in the service of personal protection, to ensure our freedom and safety, and to help people with disabilities. They detect bombs and drugs, and take victims of the elements and other tragic events. What's more, they also detect neoplastic changes, some diseases and even coronavirus.
