COACH'S QUOTE
"The best thing about the game tonight is that we stuck together and fought hard until the end," Head Coach
Jim Plumer said. "This is a tough stretch that we are going through and only thing we can do is to stay and work our way through it."
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Providence found the back of the net just 1:01 into the opening period. After Jessie McPherson made the initial stop on Hannah Johnson, Cristina Cavaliere pounced on the loose puck in the slot and fired it on goal with traffic in front of the net to give Providence a 1-0 lead.
- Providence struck again three minutes later, capitalizing on a two-on-one opportunity. Aubrey Knapp skated the puck into Vermont's zone and elected to take the original shot that was blocked. Knapp rebounded her own miss and unleashed another snapshot short sided giving the Friars a two-goal lead early.
- The Friars added a third tally 2:54 into the second period. After Rachel Weiss was turned away, Reichen Kirchmair gathered the loose puck in the crease and tucked home another Providence goal. Lindsay Bochna was credited with the secondary assist on the play.
- Less than two minutes later, after receiving a pass from Kirchmair, Rachel Weiss entered Vermont's zone on another two-on-one rush and ripped a snapshot glove side high, extending the Friars winning margin to 4-0. Bochna received another secondary assist on the score.
- 1:28 into the third period, Knapp scored her second goal of the game from the back door after receiving a cross crease pass from Brooke Becker, adding to the Friars lead, 5-0.
- Providence added a final tally with seven minutes remaining in the third period on a five-on-three power play. Kirchmair, controlling the puck in the high slot, connected with Weiss near the left faceoff circle. Weiss swiftly dished a cross-crease pass to Bochna, who added a sixth goal for Providence.
