In my attempt to identify the parasite, I contacted the USGS Bee Inventory and Monitoring Laboratory, on Flickr. Here is the response.
“Ah, very interesting…that is a rarely photographed picture of a triungulan…which is a walking stage of a meloid beetle grub which parasitize the nests of bees. Can’t tell you much more other than you see them periodically on all sorts of bees.
