Named after Amboinensis (Ambon), from Indonesia. Common names include Cardwell lilies and are considered native to Indonesia (Maluku, Sulawesi, Bali, Lombok, Timor), but they are also scattered in Thailand, the Philippines, the Bismark Islands, Vanuatu, New Guinea, Queensland and Western Australia.
Proiphys amboinensis, has round leaves, light green, shiny and slightly wavy at the edges with clear leaf bones forming beautiful curved lines.
This beautiful flowering ornamental plant is very rarely found. Plant propagation by tubers and seeds.
Flowering two to three times a year, in April and at the beginning of the rainy season (September or October). The flowers are fragrant white with bright yellow anthers, each with up to 18 flowers clustered on a long stalk.

Proiphys amboinensis berdaun Bundar, hijau muda mengkilap dan sedikit bergelombang pada pinggirannya dengan tulang2 daun yang jelas membentuk garis2 lengkung yang indah. Berbunga dua sampai tiga kali setahun, pada bulan April dan diawal musim hujan (September atau Oktober). Bunga berwarna putih wangi dengan kepala sari berwarna kuning cerah, masing-masing hingga 18 bunga berkelompok pada sebuah tangkai yang panjang.
Tanaman hias berbunga indah ini sudah sangat jarang dijumpai. Perbanyakan tanaman dengan umbi dan biji. Dijual dengan harga Rp.100.000,- sampai dengan Rp.500.000,- per satu tanaman dewasa siap berbunga.

When I was a child, I saw our neighbor had such of this plant grown in a large pot but I’ve had never seen it flowering and I didn’t see it anymore for many years. Over ten years ago, I found this plant, just one plant grew at the edge of a rubber plantation then I took it home. Now I have several pots at home and grow well, baring the flowers in every season.

That’s a great story. I imagine that one plant at the edge of the rubber plantation might have been destroyed if you didn’t bring it home. And now you have more. 🙂
