Aaron Siskind
Aaron Siskind (December 4, 1903 - February, 1991) was an American photographer who was a part of the abstract expressionist movement. In his early career, he was a member of the New York Photo League. Working with that group, he produced several significant, socially conscious series of images in the 1930's.
His work focuses on the details of nature and architecture. |
Aaron found emotional joy and tension in the process of discovering subjects and photographing them. His photographs emphasize the lines, textures and shapes of objects. The photograph on the top left is of a wall which has been painted, but Aaron has taken a photograph when the paint has started to peel off. The photograph on the top right is of a brick wall, however he has used an interesting camera angle to capture the surface.

I like these photographs as I like the way Aaron has captured the details of the different surfaces. I also like the way he has used different camera angles to capture more of the surface, but have the top bit focused, and the bottom bit blurred. I like how his photographs show the textures of decayed layers. If I were to complete a photo shoot based on his work, then I would take photographs of different surfaces around my house, and use different camera angles.
