HARRISVILE, R.I. – The Nichols men's hockey team lost a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest to Salve Regina on Saturday evening by the score of 8-3. Nichols wraps up the season with a 9-16-0 (5-16 CCC) record, while Salve improved to 14-8-1 (12-6-1 CCC).
The Seahawks got the scoring going quickly with two goals in the first five minutes of the game. The Bison defense would hold firm the rest of the way, trailing 2-0 heading into the second.
In the second, senior
Conor Leonard netted his fifth goal of the season on the powerplay on his senior night to pull the Bison within one. Salve would score the next four goals of the period to take a 6-1 lead into the final frame.
Leonard found the back of the net once again in the third with the Bison down a man to make it 6-2. After another Salve goal,
Hunter Fraser snuck one past the goalie to collect a senior night goal for himself to make it 7-3. Salve would add one more goal before time expired.
Leonard picked up three points on the night, while goaltender
Tyler Bost finished with 28 saves.
Nichols concludes its 2023 season with highlights coming in victories in the WooCup and Boston Landing Tournaments.
