Basil simply must not be missing when you make a tomato salad or meat sauce and basil is actually a really easy plant to grow yourself, either on a windowsill or in a greenhouse. The seeds should be sown on top of the soil as they need light to germinate. As the plant grows, you can nip off the leaves when you need basil for a dish and when the plant has 2-3 pairs of leaves on a stem, the top can be nipped off. Then the stem will branch out and you will get more delicious basil leaves out of the plant.
Besides tasting delicious and being a pretty plant to look at, basil is also rich in essential oils and smells strong to the touch. Basil has a symbiosis with tomatoes and you can advantageously plant out / sow basil between your tomato plants in the greenhouse - Then it is also easy to take with you for a tomato salad.
