Golf 1.4 TSI competition

mrc - I like 320s (although find the diesels too noisy for me), however, I really don't think the golf driver was really trying or he missed a gear. I have a 160 TSI (manual), and there's a lengthy hill near where I live where people like to have fun :-) Coming off the corner onto the hill I've trounced 2 320d e90s. Not sure if the e90 may be quicker directly off the line (haven't had the pleasure yet) due to it's rear wheel drive but it can't stay with a 160 golf once on the move. I have a friend with a 1 yr old 320d and it's simply just not as fast as the golf tsi. It's much quicker than you think and than the figures suggest.

@ferrari_scuderia: No, not 0-80. And yes, I do think the quarter mile says a lot more about a car\'s speed, that\'s what I meant by 1000m times.
ferrari_scuderia 15y ago
@Martin So, you\'re saying there should be 0-80km/h as well? In my place, there IS such a thing, but for motorbikes. And quarter mile is maybe the stat you\'re looking for.

Funny how people tend to think that a faster 0-100 time means they will actually be faster when doing a sprint at the traffic light. Personally, I would compare 1000m-times. The way a car reaches the 100 kmh is as important as the time it reaches it in. I\'d rather be in a car that does 0-80 in 3 sec and 80-100 in 7 sec, than a car that does 0-80 in 7 sec and 80-100 in 3 sec.. No doubt which of the two cars would win!

@Mrc now try creaming a DSG one with the driver using launch control.i bet you would loose
Mrc 15y ago
I creamed one of these with my 160ps 320d (E90). 2 car lengths in 200m... I think 7.5s to 100km/h is optimistic (unless it\'s downhill).
golf3diesel 15y ago
7.5 to 100 kmh with LC and DSG maybe.well
@gt:thank you mate, but i already knew that the GTI is faster..i was thinking about performance(not only in a straightline)/fuel consumption/insurance ..and i am in a dilema what should be my family s next future car..160 TSI/210 GTI/140/170 GTD
gt 15y ago
this would help you about performance

the test result is from Autozeitung 22/08... I have scanned and posted the Autozeitung testsheet in the laptime sources pool in the fastestlaps Forum...

Is this manually inputted? Or is it more like.. it must be true because i red in wikipedia?
If it says "Car submitted by Georg" on carpage you're looking at, you can be pretty sure that data is correct. ;)
Rob 16y ago
7.5sec is no go.. Tested it against a A3 SB 1.8Tfsi. The Golf doesnt come near him. Is this manually inputted? Or is it more like.. it must be true because i red in wikipedia?

still don't get it how can it be faster that Civic Type R or may it is just Autozeitung testing:)

Factory claim for 0-100 is 8.0 seconds, I know this model tends to test faster since Sport Auto tested the MK5 model to 7.2 instead of factory claimed 7.9.
Does anyone know if the new 160 hp MK6 still revs 7400 rpm?
