Overview

The Plastic Surgery Integrated Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida, is dedicated to training future leaders in plastic surgery. The program emphasizes graded supervision, the innovative use of technology, and a collegial environment. This allows residents to develop into confident, independent surgeons.

We provide you with extensive mentorship and the opportunity to customize the learning experience, giving you the tools to excel in whichever subspecialty or practice environment you choose to pursue.

Exposure to plastic surgery begins immediately, with three dedicated months in the PGY-1 year. The fully integrated program has a 2+4 structure, with embedded plastic surgery content beginning on day one.

You will spend more than 12 total months on plastic surgery rotations in the first three years. Additional rotations in the first three years provide training in multiple related surgical subspecialties, giving you the experience you need to fulfill the plastic surgeon’s role as a master surgical problem solver.

A three-month “embedded fellowship” in the PGY-6 year to pursue advanced training in the subspecialty area of choice
On-site training sessions in minimally invasive aesthetic treatments
A Chief Resident Aesthetic Clinic which meets weekly in the Multidisciplinary Cosmetic Center and provides an independent operating experience for the chief administrative

Certification

After successfully completing the program, you are eligible to take the written examination offered by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Accreditation

The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Program history

Mayo Clinic's Plastic Surgery Integrated Residency in Jacksonville was accredited in April 2022, and the program formally opens in July 2023. We anticipate that one trainee will complete this program annually.
