1987 Volkswagen Scirocco 16V 5-Speed

This 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco 16V is finished in Flash Silver Metallic over black leather upholstery, and it is powered by a 1.8-liter DOHC inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle. The car was ordered with a sunroof, air conditioning, a four-speaker sound system, black leather upholstery, and power windows and locks, and additional features include a hatch spoiler, a rear window wiper, 14″ alloy wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and a Pioneer cassette stereo. The car was fitted with a Specific Cruise Systems, Inc. cruise-control system and was subsequently sold new at Carter Volkswagen, Inc., of Seattle, Washington, and it remained registered in Washington until it was acquired by the seller in March 2023. Subsequent service included replacing the timing belt, water pump, camshaft seal, intake manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, left-side motor mount, and tires. This Scirocco shows 74k miles and is now offered with a window sticker, manufacturer’s literature, copies of purchase paperwork, a Bentley Publishers service manual, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Connecticut title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Flash Silver Metallic (LP7Y) and features body-color side skirts, bumper covers, and wheel arch extensions. Additional exterior details include 16V badging, a sunroof, a hatch spoiler, a rear window wiper, and quadruple rectangular headlights. Records show that Thermo-Guard undercoating and paint protection products were applied in December 1986.

Machine-finished 14″ Silverstone alloy wheels were mounted with 185/60 Dunlop Direzza Z III tires in June 2023. A space-saver spare is stored below the trunk floor, and stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes.

The 2+2 cabin features seating surfaces upholstered in black leather, while carpeted floor mats with embroidered Volkswagen logos cover the color-coordinated carpeting. Appointments include air conditioning, cruise control, a Pioneer cassette stereo, a Fischer cassette holder, and a dealer-installed Specific Cruise Systems, Inc. cruise-control system as well as power windows, door locks, and mirrors. Records show that Thermo-Guard interior protection was applied in December 1986.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a digital clock, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level, while an oil temperature gauge is mounted in the center stack. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 74k miles, approximately 100 of which have been added under current ownership.

The 1.8-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four was factory rated at 123 horsepower and 120 lb-ft of torque. The timing belt, water pump, camshaft seal, intake manifold gasket, valve cover gasket, and left motor mount were replaced and the coolant was flushed in June 2023, and an oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. The transmission gear oil was changed in preparation for the sale.

The included window sticker displays initial delivery to Carter Volkswagen in Seatle, Washington, and it lists factory colors, options, and equipment along with a total of $16,270. Manufacturer’s literature, copies of purchase paperwork, a Bentley Publishers service manual, and service records will also accompany the car.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Washington State and Connecticut. Gaps in entries are visible between December 1986 and October 1997 and from November 2015 to June 2023.
